Material
Premium composite and dense hardwoods cost more than softwood. Hardwood also takes longer to install because every board is pre-drilled and screwed.
Design
Simple shapes are quicker; curves, levels, built-in seating and planters take more time.
Glass and balustrades
Frameless glass costs more than post-fixed glass or metal, but gives the cleanest look.
Height and levels
Raised and terraced decks need more structure, steps and guarding.
Trees and access
Building around roots and trunks, and protecting mature planting, takes care. Narrow or stepped access adds time.
Removing what's there
Many Harrogate gardens already have an old deck, tired paving or overgrown beds where the new deck will go. Clearing and taking these away is priced as its own item.
Lighting
Low-voltage step and balustrade lighting is priced separately so you can decide what you need.
How we quote
Every quote is written and itemised: frame, boards, balustrades, steps, lighting, removal and any planning drawings. The visit and the quote are free, and there's no pressure to go ahead. If the total is more than you'd planned, we can suggest where to simplify without spoiling the design.
Your questions answered
Is hardwood more expensive than composite?
Often, though it depends on the boards chosen. Hardwood also takes longer to fit. We can price both for comparison.
Do you charge for design drawings?
Simple sketches are part of the quote. If you need formal drawings for a planning application, we'll explain any cost before going ahead.
